Essay #1
It was easy for me to set up my domain and find a hosting service so that alexiscornwall.ca could live somewhere on the web. I can show you recent projects I’ve been working on, link you to my social media accounts and through these various avenues share my opinion on basically anything. So as a person who creates and disseminates content online you would think that I believe that social media platforms are democratic; I mean it seems easy enough for any person to participate and put their two cents in. So how could it not be? Unfortunately, I don’t actually think social media is as accessible and democratic as…

Process Post #3
Here we go again! This is actually my second time using WordPress to create a personal/educational website. The first time that I did it, I was taking an online design class as a part of my Broadcasting Program that I completed in 2017. It was a static portfolio page that we had to post our past projects and resume on. So it’s very frustrating that I am still struggling with WordPress. I have been having sooooo much trouble with figuring out how to map out my page. I really want to have a clear and concise menu. I don’t want to have visitors confused about where to find things on…

Process Post #2
I’m really not good with technology. So this class was daunting to say the least but now that I’m actually doing it… it’s even harder!! No. No. I’m just kidding. The reality is, I have been having so many technical difficulties from me posting things and them disappearing, not having enough space on my computer to run any basic programs and the camera that I planned on filming my projects with ended up breaking. I originally setup my website as a portfolio website which was not really the point of this class. So I had to rethink that. I knew from the jump that I wanted to make my life…

Talking to Strangers This week we were asked to talk to a stranger and write about our experience in doing so. The point of this activity I believe was to get us to think about the difference between our online selves and how we interact with strangers online and how we interact with strangers in real life. My experience with this went quite well. For starters, I am an extrovert. So I love talking to new and strange people. I’m a big believer in everyone’s got a story to tell. This week I was on my way home from visiting my family in Trinidad and Tobago. With the question of…

Hidden Gems with Alexis
All of the items shown in this video are from Wildlife Thrift Store. They have 2 locations in the lower mainland but I usually shop at my local Wildlife Thrift Store in my neighbourhood of Marpole (South Vancouver). I love supporting Wildlife Thrift Stores because they actually support great organizations such as Coast Mental Health Foundation, Gathering Place Community Center and one of my favourite non-profit organizations Covenant House. It feels good to shop somewhere that is more socially conscious than most big box stores. And it feels even better to know that they are backing local community initiatives. Leave a comment with your favourite local thrift store!

Peer Review #1
albumthoughts.com First off, I want to make it known that I love this website idea. Not just because Noah has an amazing taste in music (I love the albums they have chosen to review) but also because I think there is always a great market for music reviews and specifically album reviews as people are usually apprehensive about listening to a whole album. This is because it is definitely an investment in time, which is something we all don’t have a lot of. I like that the website is pretty straightforward and clear. There isn’t too much clutter. It’s easy to follow the blog posts and I am quite impressed…
